Award-Winning Great Room Interior Remodel in Scottsdale, AZ
Elevating Architectural Detail While Expanding Light and Views
2016 Contractor of the Year (CotY) Winner
Residential Interior Remodel | Over $150,000
This type of transformation reflects the level of planning found in whole-home remodeling in Scottsdale, where every decision contributes to the experience of the space.
The original great room had generous square footage and high ceilings, but without architectural detailing, the space lacked presence. The fireplace felt undersized. Trim was minimal. Windows provided light, but did little to frame the view or enhance the architecture.
The redesign approached the room as a complete system—refining proportion, material, and detail from floor to ceiling.
One of the most impactful changes involved strengthening the connection between the interior and the golf course beyond. In the dining area, the existing window and sliding door were removed and replaced with a 12-foot-wide, three-panel sliding glass door system.
This new opening floods the space with natural light while turning the exterior landscape into a focal point. To support the new proportions, a dropped soffit was raised, allowing the full height of the opening to align with the architecture.
High-performance windows throughout the space improve comfort and energy efficiency—an important consideration in Arizona homes.
The fireplace became the defining architectural feature of the room.
Previously underwhelming, it was replaced with a custom carved stone surround that extends vertically, drawing the eye upward and reinforcing the scale of the space.
This transformation anchors the room and creates a focal point that feels proportionate to the ceiling height.
Lighting was another critical element in redefining the space.
A 24-light chandelier now serves as the centerpiece of the great room, scaled to match the volume of the space. A coordinating fixture in the dining area reinforces visual continuity.
Additional lighting layers—including recessed fixtures and sconces—create flexibility, allowing the room to shift between everyday use and entertaining.
The foyer was redesigned to establish a stronger first impression.
New porcelain flooring with granite accents introduces durability and texture, while a custom medallion creates a focal point at the entry. Refined trim details guide the transition into the main living space.
The front entry doors were replaced with custom walnut-stained double doors featuring decorative glass and ironwork. These elements introduce craftsmanship and warmth without overwhelming the architecture.
The stairwell was also reimagined as part of the overall composition.
Previously minimal and underdefined, it now includes wood stair treads, a patterned runner, updated lighting, and refined detailing that aligns with the rest of the home.
During construction, an opportunity emerged to improve circulation between spaces. A narrow archway in the entry hall was widened, creating a more natural flow and allowing movement through the home to feel effortless.
This level of refinement is a hallmark of design-build remodeling, where adjustments are made in context to improve the final outcome.
The project required careful coordination to meet a tight timeline. Temporary relocation and professional storage were arranged, allowing construction to proceed efficiently while protecting the homeowners’ belongings.
Through detailed planning and execution, the project was completed on schedule—delivering a fully transformed interior ready for use when it mattered most.
The finished great room now reflects the quality of its setting.
It is architecturally defined, filled with natural light, and balanced in proportion. Every element—from the fireplace to the lighting to the expanded views—works together to create a cohesive environment.
What was once a dated interior now feels refined, welcoming, and aligned with how the homeowners live.
A successful interior remodel at this level is not defined by finishes alone. It is defined by proportion, flow, and how each element contributes to the experience of the space.
